Level I and Level II Collaborative Family Law Training

The Level I and Level II training are being offered on four Fridays in September and November of 2014, in Ottawa.

Please note that taking this course does not qualify one for membership with Collaborative Practice Toronto (CPT) as the number of training hours is not sufficient.

These trainings will be of interest to family law lawyers, family counsellors, mental health practitioners and financial professionals wishing to work in a collaborative context.

These trainings satisfy the prerequisites for admission to the practice panel of Collaborative Practice Ottawa. PLEASE NOTE that it is not necessary to take Level I and II in order, or for every prospective member to take both. You may be able to obtain a dispensation from Collaborative Practice Ottawa if you have received comparable interest-based negotiation skills from other sources.

Level I – Introduction to Collaborative Practice

Level I is being offered on Friday, 19 September, and Friday, 26 September.

These two days introduce participants to the tools of collaborative practice including the collaborative retainer, the process guidelines, and the participation agreement. Participants reflect on the differences between the traditional and the collaborative approach to resolving issues, including the multi-disciplinary team approach. Process and skills necessary to be an effective collaborative practitioner are featured.

The cut-off date for registration for Level I is Tuesday, 2 September 2014.

Level II – Interest-Based Negotiation

Level II is being offered on Friday, 14 November, and Friday, 21 November.

This two day workshop works on interest-based competencies of the participant, which are integral to collaborative practice. Participants examine conflict styles and communication skills, to further develop their ‘tool-kit’ for collaborative practice. Participants learn about effective reframing and questioning, how to deal with impasse and conflict.

The cut-off date for registration for Level II is Tuesday, 28 October 2014.

The fee for each Level is $779.70 ($690.00 plus HST); registration forms available in downloads section of this page. Please submit a registration form for each Level you are interested in attending.
